The SmartSole is the result of years of R&D at GTX and a new partnership with Veristride. Like all businesses, we had our share of up’s and down’s, starting with developing new technology and products that had never been on the market before. Raising capital after the initial founder’s round, going public in 2008, right before the biggest financial meltdown.

Once we got passed that, building and keeping a strong team in place. Launching new products in foreign countries, and building a comprehensive intellectual property portfolio, while building a business was very challenging.

In short, we make technology that tells you where someone or something of value is, but we specialize in saving lives. Our flagship product is made for people that have a tendency to wander and get lost and if not found within 24 hours the stats are 48% of them end up being found dead. So our technology actually can help save lives and provides peace of mind to their caregivers. We are most proud of the letters we receive from people sharing their stories about what a difference our products have made in their life or their loved one’s life.

What were you like growing up?
I was and remain very adventurous, ambitious, competitive, inquisitive, which lead me to becoming a problem solver.

I began traveling at a very young age and found an interest in learning about other people and cultures. I love food and art and outdoor sports, such as surfing and skiing.

With the largest tech conference set to kick off this week, the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) promises to once again highlight all the best new products and innovations set to hit the market this year. This innovative technology will be on full display on Thursday, January 11 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm PST at the Las Vegas Westgate Tower in hospitality suite 310. This includes the GPS SmartSole® for the children’s market, the GPS InvisaBelt designed for toddlers, and the Armatrak GPS Rifle Tracker for the defense industry.

For example, in November, the US Senate Judiciary Committee voted to move forward with bipartisan legislation to provide tracking devices and resources to those with autism and other developmental disabilities at risk of wandering. Known as Kevin and Avonte’s Law, the bill is an updated version of companion bills that were previously passed by the Senate and the House.

“For the last two years, we’ve really focused on expanding distribution,” Bertagna told Equities.com in September. “We have distributors throughout most of the first-world countries and service subscribers in 35 countries. We have a lot of distributors in Europe, Central and South America, and starting to expand into Asia and the Middle East, and even starting to get into Africa somewhat. So, we really believe in building our global distribution channels.”

The company can now leverage that distribution network with its various offerings. Bertagna added in the interview, “We’re looking at doing some more business in the biometric space. It’s something we’re starting to put a lot of emphasis on, specifically with fall detection and prevention. We have also been working closely with military for the last year and half, and we’re expecting to do more with them in 2018. So, military, biometrics, children’s market and home health applications are on our roadmap as products and services to bring into our distribution pipeline.”
